The permit is also identified for the following type of food served/handled: potentially hazardous food, food served to the customer right away, hot-served food not kept more than 4 hours before being discarded.

A Low Priority Food Service Facility Permit is identified as the following: Commercially packaged potentially hazardous food served directly to the consumer; non-potentially hazardous food which is cut, assembled, or packaged on premises, such as candy, popcorn, baked goods or hand dipped ice cream.

A Mobile food service facility is identified as the following: A mechanically, electrically, manually, or otherwise propelled vehicle that is relocated following each day’s operation to an approved depot or other location acceptable to the approving authority. Sale of food is not permitted on the public rights-of-way in Prince George’s County, except for ice cream vendors. Sale of food, other than pre-packaged ice cream, from a vehicle is only permitted at an approved food hub or in association with a farmer’s market, carnival, fair, circus or other similar event.

Any person desiring to establish a vending machine location will need to apply for a permit. No new permit shall be necessary for additional machines to be added to an established vending machine location of the same permittee. A permit is not required for the sale of beverages which are sealed, canned or bottled carbonated beverages, or pasteurized dairy products; machines commonly known as gumball machines; any food or drink which is not perishable.

Any operator of a restaurant or Class III Mobile Unit must have a Prince George’s County Certified Food Service Manager on duty at all times. An individual wishing to obtain a certificate must take and pass an examination approved by the Conference for Food Protection and complete an 8-hour course from one of the approved courses prior to applying for a Food Manager card.
